The 2006 Local Plan recognised that Cambridgeshire has one of the fastest growing populations in Britain and set aside greenbelt land for development. Prior to this, growth was directed to the villages. The Local Plan is currently under review and the Cambridge Association of Architects has challenged the Council to produce a coherent spatial plan for the City.
